REYNOLDSVILLE, Pa. — Hummingbird Speedway is preparing for the final race in its more than six-decade history after the Caltagarone family announced that the track will not reopen for the 2027 season or beyond.

The family shared the decision as part of an August 26 update outlining the close of the 2026 campaign. Hummingbird was founded by Louie Caltagarone in 1964 and remained closely tied to the Caltagarone family throughout its history. Louie passed away in October 2025, making 2026 the first season the speedway operated without its longtime founder and owner.

Final Race Set for September 19

Hummingbird's final scheduled race is the Dave Srock Memorial on Saturday, September 19.

The track says the program will include:

  • Super Late Models — $4,000 to win and $500 to start
  • Pure Stocks — $1,000 to win and $100 to start
  • Pro Stocks
  • Four Cylinders

For the finale, gates are scheduled to open at 3:00 PM with racing beginning at 6:00 PM. The track has noted that event details are subject to change.

A Difficult Final Season

Hummingbird said the 2026 season was unusually challenging. In its August announcement, the track said weather had forced 10 cancellations and only four nights of racing had been completed at that point.

The family said the decision to close was made after significant consideration and framed the end of racing as the close of a major chapter in their lives. The track emphasized the relationships built among racers, fans, officials, workers, sponsors and families over more than 60 years of competition.

One Last Night at "The Bird"

The September 19 program now carries extra significance as the final opportunity for fans and competitors to gather at Hummingbird Speedway for a race night.

Following the final race, the track has also announced an end-of-season swap meet for October 3 and an awards picnic for October 4, with alternate dates planned in case of weather.

Hummingbird Speedway has been part of western Pennsylvania's grassroots racing landscape since 1964. Saturday's finale will close that chapter after generations of local competitors and fans made the Reynoldsville dirt track part of their racing lives.
