A championship that looked nearly settled is suddenly wide open. Rico Abreu enters the Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing All-In Championship weekend at Texas Motor Speedway with a 45-point advantage over Giovanni Scelzi and two races left to determine the 2026 title.

That margin was 116 points before last weekend's visit to Lakeside Speedway. Scelzi responded with a podium and a victory, while Abreu recorded a 12th-place finish and then a disqualification. The result: a points battle that will continue through the final Friday and Saturday programs, October 16–17.

How Lakeside changed the title race

Scelzi's Saturday win at Lakeside came after he led all 30 laps, giving his Spire Motorsports team vital momentum. Abreu, racing for Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, had built a substantial cushion through the summer, but Saturday's result brought the gap back within striking distance.

The Texas finale is now a contest between Abreu's drive to repeat as series champion and Scelzi's late-season charge for a title in Spire Motorsports' first sprint car campaign.

Two nights, one champion

High Limit's final two points races are scheduled for Friday and Saturday, October 16–17, at the Dirt Track at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, with FloRacing listing coverage beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern on both nights.

Scelzi needs to outscore Abreu over the final two races to erase the 45-point deficit. A strong Friday could turn Saturday into a genuine winner-take-all-style showdown, while a clean pair of finishes could be enough for Abreu to defend his title.

It is exactly the kind of late-season reversal that makes championship dirt racing unpredictable: a lead built over months can shrink dramatically over a single weekend, and now every position in Texas carries extra weight.
